XIANGYU SHIPBUILDING DELIVERS 100TH ULTRAMAX, 2 MONTHS EARLY
NANTONG, July 3 – Xiangyu Shipbuilding has named and delivered its 100th Ultramax bulk carrier, the Yuanhai Songtao (XY142), two months ahead of schedule.
The 63,800 DWT vessel is part of Xiangyu's "Jixiang" series, an independently developed green design. The shipbuilder has secured 168 orders for this type from 38 owners across 10 countries, with its Ultramax order book ranking among the world's largest, per Clarksons.
Efficiency leap: Construction cycle per vessel has dropped from 15.5 months to under 7 months — a 100%+ improvement — with a "zero quality dispute" record.
Green credentials: The vessel features HP-SCR, dual-fuel supply systems, and meets all latest IMO emission standards. It is also methanol-ready with class approval for future conversion. The ship will be registered in Yangpu, Hainan.
The delivery was attended by Nantong Mayor Zhang Tong, COSCO Shipping Bulk Deputy Party Secretary Huang Nan, CCS Vice President Jiang Yafeng, and Xiamen Xiangyu Group Chairman Deng Qidong.
CCS's Jiang Yafeng called the vessel "a new-generation green intelligent bulker demonstrating China's shipbuilding progress." Xiamen Financial Leasing President Wu Ji said the early delivery reflects Xiangyu's lean production excellence.
Strong order book: Xiangyu now holds 132 vessels on order, valued at over RMB 30 billion, with delivery slots through 2030. The company operates "two factories and four bases" with annual capacity exceeding 3 million DWT.
Qin Weimin, Xiangyu Shipbuilding's GM, said: "Reaching 100 vessels in seven years is rare. We will continue to invest in green R&D and energy efficiency."
