Giant LNG Carrier AL MAYEDA Reportedly Attacked in the Persian Gulf
AL MAYEDA reportedly struck three times in the Persian Gulf; all crew reported safe.
Maritime security firm Vanguard reports that the Marshall Islands-flagged AL MAYEDA (IMO 9397298) was struck three times by unidentified projectiles at approximately 18:00 UTC on 30 October 2026, around 40 nautical miles south of Iran’s Lavan Island. The impacts reportedly damaged the vessel’s accommodation block and caused a fire onboard.
UKMTO Warning 188-26 describes a projectile strike on an unnamed vessel’s port side at the same location, resulting in a fire. The warning reports that the crew are safe and that no environmental impact has been reported. It does not identify the vessel or specify three impacts.
AL MAYEDA is a Q-Max LNG carrier with a cargo capacity of approximately 266,000 cubic metres, according to Nakilat’s published vessel information.
The full extent of the damage and the origin of the projectiles remain unknown. UKMTO advises vessels in the area to navigate cautiously and report suspicious activity while authorities investigate.
