DP World Promotes Jason Varsamidis to Lead Asia Pacific as Logistics Network Expands
DP World has appointed Jason Varsamidis as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director for Asia Pacific, promoting its regional finance chief to oversee ports, terminals and logistics businesses across 22 markets. Announced on 15 October 2026 with immediate effect, the appointment places him in charge of a regional workforce exceeding 12,000.
From regional CFO to chief executive
Varsamidis brings nearly three decades of experience within DP World and its predecessor business, having joined P&O Ports in 1997. He had served as Asia Pacific Chief Financial Officer since 2020, helping shape regional strategy, investment decisions and business performance. Before that, he spent seven years as CFO of DP World Australia. His experience includes acquisitions, infrastructure investment and business turnaround programmes.
Group CEO Yuvraj Narayan described Asia Pacific as an important source of growth and emphasised the continuity provided by the appointment. He cited Varsamidis’s understanding of the business and its markets, alongside his commercial experience. DP World said arrangements for the regional CFO position would be announced separately.

A broader operating mandate
Varsamidis’s priorities include executing regional strategy, improving operational performance and expanding integrated logistics capabilities. Those responsibilities span an increasingly connected portfolio: port operations sit alongside warehouses, distribution centres and freight services that support customers before and after cargo passes through a terminal.
His appointment comes as DP World adds facilities serving manufacturing and consumer markets in Southeast Asia. The recent investments provide a concrete indication of the work ahead: connecting local logistics operations with the wider regional network and translating additional capacity into reliable customer services.
New capacity in Malaysia and Thailand
On 20 August, DP World announced the opening of an 11,514-square-metre warehouse in Johor, Malaysia. Located within the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone, the facility provides warehousing and inbound logistics services, strengthening connections between Malaysia, Singapore and regional trade corridors. It was the first of two facilities planned for Malaysia, with a second warehouse in Kuala Lumpur scheduled to open later in 2026.
The expansion continued on 2 October with the announcement of a contract logistics distribution centre in Bang Na, in the Greater Bangkok area. The approximately 10,000-square-metre facility connects with Laem Chabang Port and manufacturing centres along Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor. Operating around the clock, it serves high-value and time-sensitive products, including consumer electronics, semiconductors and automotive cargo. In that announcement, DP World also said further facilities in Kuala Lumpur and the Philippines were expected to open before year-end.
Connecting the regional network
Together, the Johor and Bang Na investments illustrate DP World’s expansion across different stages of its customers’ supply chains. Johor supports inbound logistics and cross-border connections, while Bang Na adds inventory and distribution capacity near manufacturing and consumer markets. Their usefulness depends on how effectively those activities connect with ports, freight services and customers’ own production and delivery schedules.
For shippers, the practical value of an integrated network lies in dependable handovers between these stages, clearer inventory management and consistent delivery performance. Against that operating requirement, Varsamidis’s experience in regional investment and business performance is relevant to the next phase of expansion. The emphasis on continuity in DP World’s appointment announcement suggests an ongoing focus on executing the existing strategy as the logistics network grows.
