On 21 July 2026, COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers announced that its board had elected Chen Shuai as Chairman of the 9th Board of Directors.

The appointment came alongside the company’s latest fleet investment plan: the construction of eight 60,000 DWT multipurpose heavy-lift vessels, with a total investment of up to RMB 2.624 billion.

Chen Shuai brings extensive experience from across the shipping industry. Starting his career in frontline container shipping operations, he worked on North America route management and gradually moved into broader business leadership roles, including senior positions at China Shipping Container Lines, COSCO SHIPPING Holdings and COSCO SHIPPING Lines.

Before joining COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers, Chen served as General Manager of the Operations Management Department of China COSCO SHIPPING Corporation Limited, where he was involved in group-level operational coordination and resource integration.

His background in global liner operations, network management and supply chain development comes at a time when specialized shipping is increasingly evolving from pure transportation into integrated logistics solutions.

In recent years, COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers has been strengthening its global network, expanding project logistics capabilities and upgrading its fleet to support growing demand from sectors such as renewable energy equipment, automobiles, engineering machinery and large-scale industrial projects.

The new generation 60,000 DWT multipurpose heavy-lift vessels will further enhance the company’s capability in transporting high-value and project cargoes, supporting China’s manufacturing industries expanding globally.

Chen’s appointment, together with the company’s fleet renewal strategy, highlights the continued transformation of specialized shipping toward larger-scale operations, stronger supply chain integration and higher-value services.
