On 26 June, the MSC Helian III completed the loading of 611 TEUs at Qingdao Port’s Qianwan port area, carrying machinery and electrical products, chemicals, textiles and other cargoes directly to Haiphong and Ho Chi Minh City.

The new service removes the need for third-location transshipment or land-based transfer, creating a lower-cost and more efficient maritime corridor between North China and Vietnam.

This is Qingdao Port’s fourth new Southeast Asia container service this year. So far in 2026, the port has launched 15 new container routes, bringing its total number of Southeast Asia services to more than 50. The network now covers major ASEAN economies including Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.

The expansion comes as trade between Qingdao Port and ASEAN continues to grow. According to Qingdao Customs, total imports and exports between Qingdao Port and ASEAN reached RMB 216.75 billion in the first five months of this year, up 13.2% year on year.

With stronger direct services, faster customs clearance and closer sea-rail coordination, Qingdao Port is further enhancing supply chain resilience for manufacturers and exporters across its hinterland.

For North China’s foreign trade, this is not just one more shipping route. It is another step toward a denser, faster and more reliable maritime logistics network linking China with Southeast Asia.
