The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), French shipping giant CMA CGM and Singapore LNG Corporation (SLNG) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at SIBCON 2026 on 14 October to explore the supply and use of liquefied bio-methane (bio-LNG) as a marine fuel in Singapore.

The agreement was signed by MPA Chief Executive Ang Wee Keong, CMA CGM Asia Pacific CEO Bo Wegener and SLNG CEO Leong Wei Hung.

The partnership will focus on leveraging Singapore’s existing LNG infrastructure to support bio-LNG supply and bunkering, including fuel certification, supply arrangements and the accounting of greenhouse gas emission reductions.

A key area of cooperation will be examining how the sustainability attributes and emission savings of bio-LNG can be reliably tracked when it is mixed with conventional natural gas in shared infrastructure.

The three parties will also conduct pilot projects and operational trials to validate these approaches and assess their potential for wider commercial application.

MPA Chief Executive Ang Wee Keong said the initiative would help Singapore build on its established LNG bunkering infrastructure while expanding lower-emission marine fuel options.

SLNG, which operates Singapore’s first LNG terminal, is among the first LNG terminal operators in the region to obtain ISCC EU certification for handling liquefied bio-methane.

The collaboration marks another step in Singapore’s efforts to develop a multi-fuel bunkering ecosystem, as the shipping industry explores lower-carbon alternatives to conventional marine fuels.
