A ship caught fire at Century Huahai (Fujian) Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. in Fu’an, Ningde, Fujian Province, at around 13:09 local time on August 13.

According to Chinese state media, an explosion occurred while firefighters were responding to the blaze.

The latest official update says 12 people were injured, including 10 firefighters and two local personnel. A firefighter who was initially reported missing was later found and taken to hospital.

The fire has since been brought under effective control.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the name, type or IMO number of the vessel, nor whether it was a newbuilding or a ship undergoing repair. The exact cause of the initial fire and subsequent explosion remains under investigation.
