Strategic Background
The establishment is part of COSCO SHIPPING Group's deep involvement in the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port. The group's subsidiary, Hainan Port & Shipping Holding Co., Ltd. , is the largest state-owned port and shipping enterprise in Hainan Province, with core businesses encompassing terminal operations (container, bulk and general cargo), ro-ro passenger transport, port-side logistics, shipping, and port-related services.
COSCO SHIPPING Lines also wholly owns Hainan COSCO SHIPPING Container Transportation Co., Ltd. , which serves as one of COSCO SHIPPING Lines' nine major domestic port gateway companies, providing a full range of container transportation services including domestic and international freight forwarding, ship agency, and transportation business consulting.
The new subsidiary reinforces COSCO SHIPPING Group's commitment to expanding its presence in Hainan, as the group continues to invest heavily in Yangpu Port's infrastructure and route network in support of the Hainan Free Trade Port's island-wide special customs operations. Yangpu Port has already surpassed 3 million TEUs in annual throughput and operates 59 domestic and international shipping routes.
