Armed attack repelled off Bosaso, Somalia
A general cargo vessel was reportedly approached by two small boats off Bosaso, Somalia, on 14 June 2026.
According to Vanguard Tech, the incident occurred at approximately 0730 UTC in position 09°47'N 051°27'E. Each small boat was reportedly carrying around six persons. The individuals onboard fired weapons continuously and ordered the vessel to stop.
The vessel’s armed security team returned fire for around 30 minutes. Both boats then broke off the approach and departed the area.
The crew, armed security team, vessel and cargo have all been reported safe. Operation ATALANTA is investigating the incident.
This latest case is another reminder that maritime security risks off Somalia remain active. For vessels transiting high-risk areas, vigilance, route planning, watchkeeping, citadel readiness and professional security support remain essential.
