Vessel **669 left Zhangjiagang on the morning of 3 September after completing discharge operations, and was navigating northbound after clearing the main fairway when the collision took place.

On-site damage assessment confirms that **669 sustained a gash of over one metre on its bulbous bow above the waterline. KAIMING suffered more significant damage in the lifeboat area of its accommodation superstructure. No water ingress was reported on either vessel, and there were no injuries among the crew.
The incident happened during the midnight watch handover period — a window widely recognised for reduced crew vigilance — which is being regarded as a likely contributing factor to the collision.
