HKMPB gives green light to Hong Kong Maritime Week 2020 hongkongmaritimehub 2020-06-10 10:57

The Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board yesterday threw a light on an otherwise gloomy shipping environment by declaring its intention to push ahead with Hong Kong Maritime Week (15-21 November 2020). The decision comes with the full endorsement of HKMBP’s co-organizers, the Hong Kong Shipowners Association and the Hong Kong Maritime Museum as well as HKMPB partners, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and InvestHK.

The endorsement of the HKTDC comes with an assurance that the trade promotion body will hold the 10th Asian Logistics, Maritime and Aviation Conference (17-18 November), HKMW’s flagship event.

Since January 2020 hundreds of maritime related events across the globe have been forcibly cancelled due to the ravages of the COVID-19 pandemic. There is now a pent-up demand across the global marine industry to appraise  the shipping world post-pandemic. HKMW has huge potential to first, show the world Hong Kong maritime remains open for business, second, demonstrate the territory’s resilience, and third, to show that Hong Kong’s wealth of expertise, efficiency and cutting-edge innovation remains firmly intact.

The HKMPB and the Hong Kong Government should be lauded for their brave decision to go ahead with HKMW 2020. It is now up to the many maritime-related businesses here to grasp this opportunity to present a memorable show for clients, old friends and the industry at large, in a real rather than virtual environment.

Over the past four years, HKMW has become a highly recognized global maritime event. This, the event's fifth outing could well be its most important yet.
