1. MV COSCO Shipping Aries, delivered to COSCOS on Jan 16, is the first ever container ship to receive LR’s Cyber-enabled ship (CES) descriptive note ‘Cyber AL3 SECURE PERFORM’ for its energy management system. The 20K TEU container ship was built by Nantong COSCOS KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd (NACKS). 
 


2. Maersk and IBM to Form Joint Venture Applying Blockchain to Improve Global Trade and Digitize Supply Chains. Maersk and IBM announced their intent to establish a joint venture to provide more efficient and secure methods for conducting global trade using blockchain technology on 16 January 2018.
 


3. CSSC Jiangnan Shipyard has won the order for construction of two 84,000 cubic meter VLGCs for Oriental Petroleum. The contract signed on Jan 16 and it is the first cooperation between the two parties.
 


4. New Chinese research vessel"Dong Fang Hong 3"launched. The ceremony was held at the Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai. Equipped with internationally advanced shipping and scientific equipment, the "Dong Fang Hong 3" is designed for maritime scientific research.
 


5. Jiangsu's liquid natural gas (LNG) terminal received the 200th LNG ship from Australia on January 15, in response to rallied consumption of the material following China's ambitious conversion to gas for winter heating.


 
6. CNOOC Gas and Power said its Yuedong liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in southern China's Guangdong province had received its first cargo of 2018.
 



7. Chinese research ship Kexue will conduct research from January to February in waters under the Philippines jurisdiction, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Tuesday.
