On July 15, 2025, China Marine Bunker (PetroChina) Co., Ltd. (@CHIMBUSCO ) successfully completed the first bonded green methanol bunkering at Dalian Port for the COSCO SHIPPING Yangpu — China’s first methanol dual-fuel container vessel. This marks a breakthrough for green marine fuel development in Northeast Asia and a major step toward China's "Dual Carbon" goals(China’s 2030/2060 climate goals).
The operation involved 500 tonnes of domestically-produced green methanol, certified by the ISCC international sustainability standard. It was also the first time a Chinese-built methanol-fueled vessel was supplied with Chinese-made green fuel through a fully domestic, ISCC-certified supply chain — a powerful example of Chinese innovation in clean energy shipping.
Cross-department collaboration in Dalian to pilot a “one-stop” regulatory service model;
Use of bonded and export supervision warehouses to cut storage and transfer costs;
Establishment of a north-to-south green methanol logistics corridor, unlocking production capacity in Heilongjiang and Inner Mongolia.
COSCO SHIPPING Yangpu, with a capacity of 16,136 TEU, will now sail on its maiden green-powered voyage to the Americas. COSCO SHIPPING is also building twelve 24,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel mega ships, expected to reduce annual CO₂ emissions by 1.2 million tonnes once fully deployed by 2026.
As a leader in marine fuel supply, CHIMBUSCO is actively expanding its green fuel capabilities, including mobile methanol bunkering systems and global supply networks. This Dalian milestone reinforces its "Five Guarantees" service commitment — Quality, Quantity, Price, Safety, and Integrity — and positions CHIMBUSCO at the forefront of the green shipping revolution.
