Meishan terminal suspends import container pick-up services

On the morning of August 11, a person with a positive nucleic acid test for COVID-19 was found at Ningbo Zhoushan Port's terminal.

In addition, Ningbo Meidong Container Terminal also issued a notice on the suspension of import container pick-up services. The notice stated that due to a system failure, Meishan terminal decided to suspend all import container pick-up services from 3:30 on the 11th, and the resumption time will be notified separately.

Due to the epidemic, bad weather such as typhoons, and strong export demand, ports such as Ningbo and Shanghai have experienced severe congestion.

Sea Intelligence, a shipping consulting company, pointed out in its recent weekly report: "For Ningbo and Shanghai ports, this may be an early warning that China should take more measures to limit the impact of the epidemic, because Delta Variant seems to continue to exist."

Ningbo Zhoushan Port is the world's largest port in terms of cargo throughput.

According to statistics from Zhejiang Port & Shipping Authority, Ningbo Zhoushan Port completed a cargo throughput of 623 million DWT in the first half of this year, a year-on-year increase of 9.5%; Completed a container throughput of 16.07 million TEU, a year-on-year increase of 21.3%.

At the same time, Ningbo Zhoushan Port has 270 terminals of over 10,000 DWT, 272 container routes, and trade channels with more than 190 countries and regions.

The impact of the outbreak of the epidemic in Ningbo Zhoushan Port is still difficult to judge, but it is undoubtedly worse for the current fragile supply chain.
