The Republic of the Marshall Islands is not only white listed with the Paris and Tokyo Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), but has also maintained QUALSHIP 21 status with the United States Coast Guard for 16 consecutive years, which is unprecedented. In addition, the RMI meets the flag criteria for a low risk ship under the Paris and Tokyo MoU’s New Inspection Regimes. These factors, in addition to the Registry’s investment in people and expertise, also contribute to the overall growth of the Registry.

Today, in Australia, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) is getting stricter in her PSC inspections. Ships with flag states that exceeds its average detention rate will have more frequent PSC inspections. In 2019, AMSA announced an average detention rate of 5.06%, and the detention rate of Marshall Islands was 3.7%.

The Marshall Islands flagged fleet has various ship types, covering almost all ship types. Till December 31, 2020, the entire fleet has a total of 4,827 ships, of which the large gas carriers of the fleet have achieved excellent growth rates. This is mainly due to RMI set up separate technical team for the gas carrier sector, which can provide shipowners with strong technical guidance and follow-up services.
