COVID-19 outbreak among Russian reefer ship crews in Busan hongkongmaritimehub 2020-06-29 10:08

Members of the crew of two Russian registered reefer vessels currently berthed at South Korea’s southern port of Busan, have been tested positive for COVID-19.

ICE STREAM and ICE CRYSTAL had  both arrived from Vladivostok with frozen food-stuff cargoes, but discharge has so far been denied due to the outbreak of the virus. Marine claims consultants, C Solutions (Hong Kong) Ltd, which is currently advising unnamed clients, said a number of crew have been taken ashore into isolation and treatment.

Up to 23 ships are said to be involved but only the Russian ships are being refused discharge, whether infected or not. Other ships delayed by the logistical consequences of the outbreak are said to be threatening claims against those ships suspected of having infected crews.
