The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) has published the latest update of its Flag State Performance Table, in which the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Registry has earned a perfect rating.

 

Since the Table was launched 15 years ago, ICS says it has been pleased by the ongoing improvement which the data has helped to demonstrate. Among the twelve largest flag states, responsible for 80% of world merchant tonnage, none currently have more than one potential negative indicator and nine of these have no negative indicators such as Bahamas, Greece, Liberia, Marshall, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong etc.

Recently, Xinde Marine Nrews has an interview with Mr Chen, CEO of Maritime Administration of the Republic of the Marshall Islands in China. Mr. Chen gives a short introduction and makes a highly assessment of the Marshall Islands Registry. He said,"When it comes to the requirements of vessel registry of RMI, the vessels should be under 20 years of age at the first time of registration,  and all commercial vessels are required to be classed by a Classification Society that is recognized by the RMI Maritime Administrator. "

 

"In addition, we also have strict standards to management company of the vessels including management and operation quality , and abilities to respond to accidents and emergencies.International Registries, Inc. and its affiliates (IRI) provide administrative and technical support to the RMI Registry. TheIRI operates 28 officesworldwide, provides uninterrupted service throughout the year and always focus on quality and services. The RMI Registry has been widely recognized by Shipowners and Maritime Administrations within global. Of the top three largest registries, the RMI Registry is also the only flag State administration to have earned the United States Coast Guard’s QUALSHIP 21 status.”Mr Chen added.
