On September 24, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. (DSIC), part of CSSC, delivered its first-ever 175,000 cbm LNG carrier SEA SPIRIT to China Merchants Gas Transport (CM LNG), the LNG shipping subsidiary of CHINA MERCHANTS ENERGY SHIPPING CO., LTD. (CMES).
This landmark vessel is not only DSIC’s inaugural LNG newbuilding, marking its official entry into the world’s most technically demanding ship type, but also the first LNG newbuilding for CM LNG, symbolizing the company’s ambitious step into clean energy shipping. Together, it represents a dual breakthrough for China’s shipbuilding and shipping industries.
SEA SPIRIT is designed to the latest international LNG standards, measuring 295 meters in length, 46.4 meters in beam, with a cargo capacity of 175,000 cbm—enough to supply the city of Dalian with natural gas for one and a half months in a single voyage.
Green Technology Highlights:
Equipped with a new-generation dual-fuel low-speed engine meeting the highest IMO emission standards.
Integrated Silverstream Technologies Air Lubrication System, significantly enhancing hydrodynamic performance while reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
Cargo containment system: GTT Mark III Flex, with an ultra-low boil-off rate of just 0.085%, plus a reliquefaction plant to minimize gas losses.
With DSIC now joining Hudong-Zhonghua and Jiangnan Shipyard, China has officially formed a “three-pillar” LNG shipbuilding capability, breaking into a segment long dominated by Korean yards.
For CM LNG, SEA SPIRIT is more than just a vessel—it is the foundation stone of its LNG shipping platform。
