Hengli Heavy Industries Secures Another 2+2 VLCC Order! Xinde Marine News Chen Yang 2025-09-08 17:44

On September 5, Hengli Heavy Industries announced a fresh 2+2 VLCC contract with a leading European shipowner – a milestone that not only strengthens its position in the global tanker market but also highlights China’s rising shipbuilding capabilities.

This follows the successful delivery in June of its first 306,000 DWT VLCC “ALIAKMON I”, which set new benchmarks for speed, fuel efficiency, and environmental performance. Winning the trust of European owners further validates Hengli’s technical expertise and product quality.

VLCC Orderbook at a Glance
Sept 2023: 2 VLCCs (later resold to Dynacom)
Apr & Sept 2024: 6 additional VLCCs
Jun 2025: First VLCC delivered
Sept 2025: New 2+2 VLCC deal with European owner
Hengli Heavy now holds over 10 VLCC orders (including options), alongside recent contracts for Suezmax tankers, bulk carriers, and 22,000 TEU dual-fuel containerships.

Since acquiring the former STX Dalian shipyard in 2022, Hengli has rapidly transformed into one of the most dynamic players in global shipbuilding. With large-scale investments, green technologies, and partnerships with top-tier owners, the company is pushing forward China’s ambition to move from a shipbuilding giant to a shipbuilding powerhouse.
