Chinese shipowner HIGHTON Charts Course Toward 100 Vessels with Bold Expansion Strategy xinde marine news Chen Yang 2025-07-23 15:21

Fujian Highton Development Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Highton Development" or "Company" or HIGHTON) is making waves in the dry bulk sector with an ambitious goal: building a 100-ship fleet.

As of mid-2025, the company controls 72 dry bulk vessels, including supramax, panamax, and capesize types, with a total capacity of 4.84 million DWT—placing it among China’s top private dry bulk shipping operators.

In the first half of 2025, HIGHTON added 12 new vessels through acquisitions and bareboat chartering.

Notably, the company has made a strategic entry into the heavy-lift multipurpose vessel segment, successfully delivering its first MPP vessel and marking a major step into the high-value project cargo and equipment transport market. This move reflects HIGHTON’s growing ambition to diversify fleet capabilities and revenue streams beyond traditional bulk cargo.

Despite macro headwinds in the dry bulk market—BDI and segment indices falling over 30% YoY—HIGHTON's supramax TCE outperformed the market average by 33%, thanks to its flexible "global dispatch + regional precision" model and successful charter-in operations under its asset-light platform.

The company also announced a new equity placement of up to RMB 210 million, fully subscribed by the controlling shareholder’s family office, reinforcing strong insider confidence in dry bulk’s long-term potential.
