China Maintains Global Lead in Shipbuilding in H1 2025 xinde marine news Chen Yang 2025-07-23 08:44


According to the latest data from the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI), China's shipbuilding sector has continued to dominate the global market across key metrics in the first half of 2025:
· Shipbuilding output reached 24.13 million DWT, down 3.5% year-on-year
· New orders stood at 44.33 million DWT, down 18.2%
· Orderbook at the end of June rose to 234.54 million DWT, up 36.7%

Market share (by DWT):
Output: 51.7% of the global total
New orders: 68.3%
Orderbook: 64.9%

Market share (by CGT):
Output: 47.2%
New orders: 64.0%
Orderbook: 57.6%

Despite fluctuations in newbuilding volumes, China remains at the forefront of the global shipbuilding industry — leading not only in capacity but also in innovation and high-value ship types.
