SPG completes first B24 bio-marine fuel bunkering in northern China Shandong Port Group 2025-06-18 09:00

The launching ceremony of the first B24 bio-marine fuel bunkering operation in northern China kicked off in Qingdao on June 14.

Bunkering vessel Dayuanyou 8 discharged 1,300 metric tons of B24 bio-marine fuel into an international carrier HMM VANCOUVER, marking a milestone in Shandong Port Group's (SPG) efforts to strengthen strategic cooperation with China Marine Bunker (PetroChina) Co Ltd and implement the national strategy of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.

The achievement also marked the first time that an international vessel has received bio-marine fuel bunkering services at a port in northern China. The new service will significantly advance the green development of the port and shipping industry while enhancing the service capability of ports.

As a ready-to-use green ship fuel, B24 bio-marine fuel is a sustainable biodiesel refined from 24 percent waste materials blended with 76 percent traditional low-sulfur fuel oil. It does not require any modifications to the ship's engine fuel system and can seamlessly integrate with existing vessels. Besides ensuring strong power, it reduces carbon emissions by approximately 20 percent.

The successful introduction of the B24 bio-marine fuel bunkering service has bridged the gap in bio-marine fuel bunkering among ports in northern China. This achievement will strengthen China's clean marine fuel supply network and help Qingdao enhance its competitiveness as an international shipping hub center, contributing to the green and sustainable development of the entire port and shipping industry.
