World’s Largest LNG Dual-Fuel Container Ship Delivered in Shanghai xinde marine news Chen Yang 2025-04-15 19:06

On April 15, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), officially named and delivered the world’s first and largest 24,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ship, CMA CGM SEINE, to CMA CGM Group in Shanghai.

With a length of 399 meters and a carrying capacity of 23,876 TEUs — including 2,200 reefer slots — the vessel is a true “green cargo king” and giant of the seas. Powered by an 18,600 cbm MARK III membrane LNG tank, CMA CGM SEINE can sail up to 19,500 nautical miles on a single LNG voyage, slashing CO₂ emissions by 20% and nearly eliminating sulfur oxides and particulate matter.

This vessel represents a major leap from the earlier 23,000 TEU CMA CGM Jacques Saadé-class, offering:
Higher loading capacity (+764 TEUs)
Lower fuel and gas consumption
Full compliance with IMO Tier III and latest SOLAS regulations
Enhanced fire safety systems
Superior crew comfort with noise-reduction design

With CMA CGM SEINE, Hudong-Zhonghua has now delivered 17 container ships to CMA CGM, 12 of which are LNG dual-fuel powered — solidifying its leadership in green ultra-large vessel construction.

Backed by digitalized production and lean management, the project achieved record-setting performance in outfitting, LNG bunkering cycle, and build period — a showcase of Chinese shipbuilding excellence on the global stage.
