SDARI's 50,000 DWT ammonia fueled MR Tanker obtained RINA AIP Xinde Marine News Vivian Xu 2022-11-02 14:10

Recently, a 50,000 DWT ammonia fueled medium range oil/chemical tanker (MR) developed and designed by Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute of CSSC obtained the AIP Certificate issued by RINA. This is another new type of clean energy vessel developed by SDARI after the development of the ammonia fueled 7000CEU PCTC.

It is understood that MR tanker can carry IMO class II & III chemicals and refined oil.

The application of ammonia fuel will make MR tankers have significant advantages in dealing with carbon reduction, green regulations and other aspects. When ammonia fuel is used as the main fuel, the EEDI of the vessel is reduced by more than 90% compared with the baseline. The low carbon characteristics of ship operations can also effectively meet the requirements of the EEXI and CII.
