China launched its third aircraft carrier, the Fujian, in Shanghai Jiangnan Shipyard on June 17th. The carrier, named after Fujian Province, was completely designed and built by the country.
Fujian is China's first fully independently designed and built catapult-type aircraft carrier. It has a long straight-through flight deck, electromagnetic ejection and blocking devices, and a full displacement of over 80,000 tons. After launching, Fujian will carry out mooring tests and sea trials as planned.
