ABS Opens Sustainability Center of Excellence in Shanghai Xinde Marine News 2022-05-12 13:14

ABS has expanded its global network of sustainability centers of excellence to China, with the addition of a fifth base in Shanghai.

Located in key maritime hubs across the world – Athens, Singapore, Copenhagen, Houston and now Shanghai, the centers offer industry leading support in a range of sustainability disciplines.

The Shanghai Sustainability Center, led by Tao Shen, ABS Manager, Sustainability Development, focuses on advancing vessel innovations, providing carbon economics expertise, developing ESG strategies and supporting in acquiring green finance. The center is designed to extend ABS sustainability support to serve the wider range of maritime stakeholders, including shipowners, financial institutes, shipyards and designers.

“With the launch of China's emission trading system, our industry is preparing for the possibility of being included in the regulation. Following the establishment of the  Sustainability Center in Singapore led by Panos Koutsourakis, ABS Director, Sustainability, ABS is solidifying its Sustainability presence in the Pacific Region. Now more than ever, ABS is needed as a trusted advisor in this region. Our deep domain insight into decarbonization strategies and technologies as well as industry leading sustainability services, backed up by the global network of sustainability centers is now available to clients in China right on their doorstep,” said Georgios Plevrakis, ABS Vice President, Global Sustainability.
