China surpasses South Korea to lead new ship orders in the first month of 2022 Xinde Marine News Sarah Yu 2022-02-09 14:52

At the beginning of the new year in 2022, China and South Korea are competing fiercely in the global shipbuilding market. In the past January, China and South Korea received 48% and 45% of the world's new ship orders respectively, and China ranked first with a slight advantage of 3%.
 
According to the latest data released by Clarksons on February 8, in January this year, the global order volume for new ships was 3.07 million CGT, an increase of 72% over December last year.
 
Among them, China has undertaken 1.47 million CGT, with a market share of 48%, ranking first in the world; South Korea has undertaken 1.38 million CGT, with a market share of 45%, ranking second; Japan has undertaken 90,000 CGT, with a market share is 3%, ranking third.
 
Judging from the ship types of new ship orders in January, large LNG ships of more than 140,000 m3 and large container ships of more than 12,000 TEU accounted for 67% of the overall transaction volume, and these ship types are the main ship types built by Korean shipbuilding companies.
 
As of the end of January this year, the global orders for new ships was 91.28 million CGT, an increase of 110,000 CGT over the end of December last year. Among them, the number of new ship orders in South Korea increased by 690,000 CGT, and the number of new ship orders in China and Japan decreased by 40,000 CGT and 240,000 CGT respectively.
