Six non-official members have been appointed to the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board and a further 10 incumbent non-official members have been re-appointed. A further eight institutional members will serve for a two-year term from April 1.
The six new members are: Angad Banga, Veronica Fung Kit-ming, Wellington Koo Tse-hau, Kenneth Lam Sze-ken, Timothy Lee Kwok-lam and Clarence Leung Ka-fai. Mr Banga is the chief operating officer of Caravel Group; Miss Fung Kit-ming is a business management professional.
Mr Wellington Koo Tse-hau is the executive director of Valles Steamship; Mr Lam Sze-ken is the chairman of Credit Agricole Asia Ship Finance Ltd; Mr Lee Kwok-lam is a senior marine insurance underwriter; and Mr Leung Ka-fai is a partner of asset finance and leasing.
In addition, the ten incumbent members are: Agnes Choi Heung-kwan, Patrick Fong Yiu-fai, Bjorn Hojgaard, Kwok Kwok-chuen, Rosita Lau Sui-yee, Li Lian-jun, Andy Tung Lieh-cheung, Elsa Yeung Mei-fong, Frankie Yick Chi-ming; and Gerry Yim Lui-fai.
The eight institutional members are: the Hong Kong Container Terminal Operators Association, the Hong Kong Liner Shipping Association, the Hong Kong Sea Transport and Logistics Association, the Hong Kong Shipowners Association, the Hong Kong Shippers’ Council, the Institute of Seatransport, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, and the Vocational Training Council.
Secretary for Transport Frank Chan Fan said: “We would join hands with the industry to further consolidate Hong Kong into a major maritime services hub which generates good synergy with shipping and port operations through a vibrant port, an established shipping heritage as an international maritime centre as well as effective governance, policies and practices for the maritime cluster.”
The HKMPB was established on April 1, 2016. The board provides a high-level platform for the government to work with the industry with a view to setting the direction for the long-term development of port and maritime services, fostering the development of maritime manpower and devising initiatives to enhance Hong Kong’s status as an international maritime hub.
The HKMPB is currently in the throes of organising the 3rd Hong Kong Maritime Week, to be held in the territory in November 2018.
