Maersk To Provide $80 Million Bonus To Employees Amid Record Profit Marine Monks 2021-12-02 09:31

Danish shipping giant A.P. Moller-Maersk will be giving $1,000 to each of its 80,000 employees (approximately), as the world's largest container liner is heading towards record profits in 2021.

The bonus will reportedly be provided along with December or January's paycheck. It is to be noted, that the top 400 managers at Maersk have been excluded from the incentive.

Back in early November, the Copenhagen-headquartered container liner reported record earnings in the third quarter (Q3) of 2021 amid the continued ‘exceptional market situation’ after earning $16.6 billion in Q3, 2021, which is a 68% increase in revenue for the world's largest shipping line. This comes at a time when every major container liner around the world, including the likes of HMMHapag-Lloyd and more are posting similar profit records, while the ever-growing port congestions around the world are chocking the supply chain and schedule reliability of every shipping company are reaching new lows.

Soren Skou, the Chief Executive Officer of Maersk, in an internal memo accessed by Bloomberg News said, “In a massive team effort our colleagues across the globe have risen beyond the call of duty to respond to our customers' needs. And this has not been easy given the unknowns and disruptions that we had to deal with, the impacted supply chains, congestions, and capacity shortages.”

Previously too, just a year back, Maersk paid a $1,000 bonus to most of its employees, when it reported a profit of approximately $3 billion, after being in loss for the past four years.
