With the signing of another batch of 7000TEU container ship contracts, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, has a total of 22 orders for this type of ship, ranking first in the world.

The 7000TEU container ship is also expected to become another brand ship type built by Waigaoqiao in the market after the SWS capesize series bulk carrier.

The 7000TEU container ship was designed by SDARI under CSSC. It adopts SEALION series of new-generation medium-sized container ships with a total length of 272 meters, a width of 42.8 meters, and a structural draft of 15 meters, which greatly optimizes fuel consumption performance.

The ship's EEDI meets the requirements of Phase Ⅲ, the nitrogen oxide meets Tier III emission standard of IMO. This type of ship is also equipped with a ballast water treatment system certified by USCG. It is a highly efficient, economical, and environmentally friendly container ship favored by the market.

Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding is the first Chinese shipbuilding company to enter the field of ultra-large container ship construction. In 2015, it successfully signed three 18000TEU ultra-large container ship construction contracts with CMA CGM, and successfully built and delivered them. This was the first time China built an ultra-large container ship at that time, breaking the monopoly of Korean ship enterprises in this field.

In January 2018, Waigaoqiao delivered the first 20,000 TEU ultra-large container ship "COSCO SHIPPING TAURUS" built in China, becoming a "pioneer" for Chinese shipping companies to fully enter the ultra-large container ship construction market.
