The first half of this year saw the strongest wave of shipbuilding, with 208 owners spending money on new vessels, building a total of 829 vessels with a total of 65.11.4 million DWT. Seaspan of Canada, which ordered 40 vessels with a total of 6.02 million DWT, took the lead, followed by Evergreen Marine, which ordered 22 vessels with a total of 3.44 million DWT. Wan Hai Lines ordered to build 33 ships with 2.148 million DWT.

There is a serious shortage of ships in the shipping market, second-hand ships have also become popular, and their value has soared with double digits. Under the influence, the number of scrapped container ships has decreased greatly, and the ship has become an important asset of the shipping company.

In the first half of this year, the new ship orders increased by more than 1.6 times compared with the same period last year, among which the top 10 shipowners ordered 202 vessels with 23.923 million DWT, accounting for 36.7% of the global total new orders. The top 20 shipowners ordered 260 vessels with 35.055 million DWT, accounting for 53.8% of the global total. The market concentration keeps rising.

As the demand exceeds the supply, the industry described it as hard to find a single ship on the market. Some shipping companies have begun to build bulk cargo ships to increase the capacity of container ships in order to obtain returns from high freight rates in the short term.
