Waigaoqiao won orders for two 210000 DWT bulk carriers from Alpha Bulkers xinde marine news Sarah Yu 2021-07-12 16:43

After four years, Alpha Bulkers Shipmanagement, the Greek shipowner, returned to the new shipbuilding market and ordered two 210000DWT newcastlemax bulk carriers in Waigaoqiao.

The Ships are scheduled to be delivered in 2022. They are registered under the Marshall Islands and are classified into DNV and CCS.

According to Clarkson, the order for Alpha Bulkers was signed on April 1, but it has not been announced before.

Alpha Bulkers' order was originally an alternative ship for ICBC Leasing. ICBC Leasing ordered two 210000 DWT bulk carriers in Waigaoqiao in January last year, but abandoned four alternative orders because it failed to obtain the chartering contract.

Waigaoqiao subsequently resold four alternative ships, two of which were purchased by Alpha Tankers, and the other two were sold to Japanese owner Mitsukoshi in March at a resale price of about $52 million each.

The order for Waigaoqiao is the only new vessel currently under construction in Alpha Bulkers' fleet. Alpha Bulkers' fleet currently has 31 bulk carriers, according to Clarkson, with the latest, "Alpha Pride", delivered in January 2019. It is the second of two 82,000 DWT Kamsarmax bulk carriers ordered by Alpha Tankers from Yangzijiang in October 2017.
