The container ship is about to break the record! xinde marine news Sarah Yu 2021-05-20 11:55

Evergreen Marine will welcome the world's largest container carrier, carrying 28 TEUs more than the current largest container ship.

Samsung Heavy Industries will deliver the 24,000 TEU container ship "Ever Ace" to Evergreen Marine in July. The actual cargo capacity of the ship is 23,992 TEU, which is 28 TEUs more than the series of container ships ordered by HMM at DSME (23964TEU for HMM) and will become the world's largest container carrier.

For the past five years, the world record for the volume of containers carried by container ships has been updated every year or two.

The green-painted "Ever Ace" will be deployed on Evergreen's CEM service route, providing transport services between Asia and Northern Europe.

"Ever Ace" is the first of 10 VLCCs ordered by Evergreen, built at Samsung Heavy Industries, Hudong Zhonghua and Jiangnan Shipyard.

In recent years, the scale of container transport ships has broken records repeatedly. In 2017, the volume of container carriers exceeded 20,000 TEU for the first time. The capacity of container ships has almost quadrupled since the beginning of the century.

However, at the end of March this year, Evergreen's super large container ship "Ever Given" (20388TEU) ran aground on the Suez Canal, which made the industry have some disputes about the rationality of building a super large container ship of more than 16000 TEU.
