Shoei Kisen has selected Imaji Shipbuilding, Japan's largest shipbuilder, to build a new fleet of 10,000 container ships, including three 11,500 TEU container ships to be delivered in 2022 and to be chartered to Taiwan Yang Ming Marine.
In fact, Yang Ming has always maintained a good cooperative relationship with Japanese shipowners and shipyards.
The five 14,000 teu container ships that Yang Ming chartered from Shoei Kisen in 2019 were also built by Imaji Shipbuilding of Japan.
The vessel is capable of carrying about 14,220 20-foot standard containers, equipped with 1,000 freezer sockets, with a length of 366.44m, a width of 51.2m, a maximum draft of 15.524m and a design speed of 23 knots.
The three new 10,000 teu ships will allow Yang Ming, the world's ninth-largest liner carrier by capacity, to carry more than 600,000 containers.
Since the beginning of this year, due to the global epidemic, most of the shipyards have failed to receive any orders in the field of container ships.
Apart from China Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, which recently received a batch of orders from Tiger Group for dual-fuel container ships, the only one to receive orders are Yang Ming Marine.
