China's CNOOC imports LNG via Yuedong terminal xinde marine news 2018-01-17 13:58

CNOOC Gas and Power said its Yuedong liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in southern China's Guangdong province had received its first cargo of 2018.

The Cool Runner tanker, carrying 60,000 tonnes of LNG from Trinidad and Tobago, arrived at the terminal on January 13, with unloading completed after 20 hours, CNOOC Gas and Power said.

The cargo will guarantee gas supply for eastern Guangdong and surrounding areas during the Lunar New Year holiday from mid-February, the company said.

The firm is a unit of state-run China National Offshore Oil Corp , China's biggest LNG importer.

Yuedong LNG has now imported a total of 616,000 tonnes of LNG since commissioning last April.

CNOOC said last month it had rented a convoy of 100 trucks to ship LNG to northern Chinese regions to ease winter gas shortages.

Rival China National Petroleum Corp said on January 16 that China's natural gas demand would rise 10% this year and that seasonal gas shortages would persist.
