COSCO SHIPPING Logistics Operates the First Offshore Wind Turbine Transport Project COSCO SHIPPING 2020-04-27 11:31

On April 20, Goldwind’s 6MW wind turbines were successfully hoisted to M.V. Xin Heng 9, marking the official launch of the second batch of the Three Gorges Dalian Zhuanghe III offshore wind power project, an offshore wind power transportation project independently developed by COSCO SHIPPING Logistics (Dalian). It is the first offshore wind power project in Northeast China as well as the largest of its kind in Northern China.

With the rise of offshore wind power construction in recent years, the Domestic Trade Logistics Department of COSCO SHIPPING Logistics (Dalian) has seized market opportunities and addressed the difficulties and pain points for customers. After more than two years of careful preparation and several rounds of discussion, the contract for the offshore wind power project was signed in August 2019, covering the shipping of eight sets of 6MW wind turbines. The generators involved weigh up to 160 tons with a blade length of 83.6 meters.

Compared with onshore wind power transportation, offshore wind power transportation is much more difficult as the equipment is larger, heavier, and involves more links. To meet the customer’s high requirements for cargo hoisting and stowage, the company drew upon its previous extensive experience in the shipping of bulky goods and acquired detailed information of all ports involved. It also surveyed each transportation route from the plant to the terminal and sailed a few hours to learn about the unloading situation at sea. In addition, to overcome the inconvenience caused by the pandemic, the company sent staff to work on the spot at Dafeng Port a week in advance. They coordinated with related parties at various links, such as land transportation fleet, berthing of the ship, and hoisting at the port, to ensure the on-time delivery of wind turbines.
