At 3:00 pm on February 24, a train loaded with 46 high cube containers of COSCO SHIPPING left Yiwu for Ningbo Zhoushan Port. It was the first train of sea-rail intermodal transport departing from Yiwu after the Spring Festival, which marked that COSCO SHIPPING became the first shipping company that restored such service locally.
Putting customers first and acquiring first-mover advantage
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, COSCO SHIPPING has attached equal importance to epidemic prevention and control as well as production and operation, taken advantage of its local network and opened logistics channels to help companies with work resumption. After the Spring Festival holiday, the Yiwu Company of COSCO SHIPPING Lines Ningbo Branch has taken a series of measures, including workplace disinfection, purchase of protective articles, and staff health information collection and monitoring according to local epidemic prevention and control policies to ensure staff’s personal safety so as to apply for work resumption at an earlier date.
On February 12, the company obtained the Letter of Approval for Work Resumption, thus becoming the first ship owner commencing operations in Yiwu.
Guaranteeing customers’ product delivery by replacing road transport with rail transport
On February 6, a local textile enterprise, also a customer of the Yiwu Company, was approved to resume production. However, there was a serious shortage of local trucks for product transport, which posed a big challenge to the customer.
Taking into account the customer’s urgent needs, the company rapidly developed an alternative of sea-rail intermodal transport. Making use of the company’s network advantage, the sales staff promptly contacted with other local customers to understand their shipping needs. With support from COSCO SHIPPING Lines, the company coordinated with relevant parties in various links such as slot booking, empty container allocation, short-distance transportation, customs clearance and cargo handling and ensured the successful delivery of the products.
The train which was specially operated for COSCO SHIPPING helped local companies address their delivery difficulties after the Spring Festival holiday, while demonstrating the sense of social responsibility, flexibility and high-quality service of COSCO SHIPPING as a centrally-administered SOE.
