China Yangtze River’s New Goal: Basically Modernize by 2020
 


On the latest Changjiang River Navigational Affairs Conference, Changjiang River Administration of Navigational Affairs of MOT has set a new goal for the development of the Yangtze River shipping in the new era:
 
In accordance with the goal of building a powerful socialist modernization country and the overall deployment of transport powerful countries in the new era, it is imperative to fully realize the modernization of the Yangtze River shipping and fully build the golden waterway in the whole basin.
 
Changjiang River Administration of Navigational Affairs of MOT will adopt "three steps" to achieve the new goal of the development of the Yangtze River shipping. By 2020, the goal of the "13th Five-Year Plan" will be satisfactorily completed and the Yangtze River shipping will be basically modernized. By the year 2035, the Yangtze River will be fully realized in shipping modernization. By the middle of this century, a strong and modern Yangtze River shipping will be completed and the Yangtze River basin golden waterway will be fully built.
 
Over the past five years, the throughput of the Yangtze River increased from 1.92 billion tons to 2.5 billion tons. The throughput of ports above designed size of the Yangtze River increased from 1.86 billion tons to 2.44 billion tons. Container throughput increased from 13.57 million TEUs to 16.5 million TEUs.
