China Shanghai Yangshan Port Breaks World’s Record
 


Last Friday, Shanghai Port successfully broke the world’s record by its 40 million TEUs container throughput, according to Shanghai international Port. Marking the Shanghai International Shipping Center entered a new historical period.
 

Shanghai Yangshan Deep Water Port is the world's biggest automated container terminal. It started trial operations this year. Since 2010, the container throughput of Shanghai Port always ranks the first in the world for the eighth consecutive year.
 
Statistics show that 99% of the foreign trade goods and materials in Shanghai go in and out via Shanghai Port, and Shanghai Port achieves about 20% of its foreign trade throughput annually.
 
Review the development of its container business, Shanghai Port started container handling in 1978 with a capacity of 7,951 TEUs. In 2006, the port achieved the capacity of 20 million TEUs and in 2011 its throughput exceeded 30 million TEUs. In 2016, Shanghai set a record by handling over 37 million TEUs.
