Guangxi ramps up rail coal shipments to utility amid surging power demand xinde marine news 2019-08-16 14:55

Guangxi province in southwestern China ramped up coal shipments via railway to Hengzhou power plant, one major coal-fired utility in the province, to meet surging power demand amid scorching weather.

Electricity consumption jumped quickly from industrial firms and households as heat waves have been hitting the province since June, which also boosted thermal coal deliveries at Beibuwan port.

Hengzhou utility saw daily coal burns surge to nearly 10,000 tonnes from previous 6,000 tonnes affected by the rising temperatures, presenting a growth of over 50% year on year.

The utility usually ship a great deal of coal supplied by Indonesia, Australia, Guizhou and Hunan through Beibuwan port via railway.

Over July 1-August 11, a total 1.25 million tonnes of thermal coal was shipped to the plant, a strong jump of 65% compared with a year earlier.
