China’s first offshore nuclear plant to deliver in 2020

China's first offshore nuclear power station will deliver from a shipyard in 2020 and start working in the South China Sea.

A shipbuilding firm in central China's Hubei Province has announced it is set to start construction on a marine nuclear power platform which is designed to supply power for the country's offshore oil drilling platforms and islands.

This first offshore nuclear creator has been created by a joint venture comprising state-owned China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), CSIC 719 Research Institute and the Hubei Hongtai State-owned Capital Investment Operation Group.

China has earmarked as many as 20 offshore nuclear plants in the coming years.
