COSCO SHIPPING Energy Orders Ships from DSIC

On November 20, China’s COSCO SHIPPING Energy and Dalian Shipbuilding Industry co. , ltd. (DSIC)signed the contract of building four very large crude carriers(VLCCs) and three Suezmax tankers in Shanghai.

It is reported that the total price of the four 319,000-dwt VLCCs and three 158,000-dwt Suezmax tankers is about 3.67 billion yuan. Four VLCCs are expected to be delivered between August 2020 and March 2021, and three Suezmax tankers are expected to be delivered between August 2020 and January 2021.

The four 319,000-dwt VLCCs is the seventh generation of new type VLCCs developed independently by DSIC. They can meet the latest structural common specification, enhance the ship’s safety and conform to the three-level standard of the ship's NOx emission limit and enhances the competitiveness of the ship's green operation. It indicates DSIC’s advantages on the construction of new round Suez type ships.

COSCO SHIPPING Group is an important strategic partner of DSIC. Since its cooperation in 1984, DSIC has built a total of 145 vessels for COSCO with a total load of 16.76 million deadweight tons. Since 2013, CSIC has delivered over 40 vessels of all types to COSCO. The cooperation between the two groups has a long history.

Under the strong support of China’s national policies including "Maritime Power strategy", "Belt and Road" and so on, the undertaking of this new ship project is of great significance to the continuation of the cooperation between the two groups and it will further optimize COSCO SHIPPING Energy's ship type and ship’s age structure so as to build the world's leading oil tanker fleet together and make China's shipbuilding and shipping industry bigger and stronger.
