China and Panama Turn a New Page

On November 17, 2017, President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China and Panama’s President Juan Carlos Varela, held the first historic meeting between the two heads of state in Beijing.

Presidents Xi and Varela unanimously affirmed that the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Panama opened a new era of the history of the two countries' exchanges of more than 160 years and started to develop hand in hand with each other.

After the meeting, the heads of the two countries witnessed a total of more than 10 cooperation documents signed by the two sides in signing the "Belt and Road" and in the fields of economy, trade, investment, shipping, railways, human resources, industrial parks, agriculture, quality inspection, civil aviation and tourism.

China, as the world's major cargo trade country, is ready to develop a logistics network cooperation with Panama based on its regional advantages, Premier Li Keqiang said on Friday.

The establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Panama has "initiated a historical chapter for bilateral relations, benefiting the people of both sides", Li said.
We believe the two countries will carry out closer and more competitive cooperation in maritime affairs.
