Xiamen Port sees record high numbers of cargo in 2018 xinde marine news 2019-01-14 17:33


Both freight and passenger transport in Xiamen Port in east China's Fujian Province reached a record high in 2018, with its container throughput ranking the 14th around the globe. 
 
According to statistics, the annual cargo throughput of Xiamen Port reached 217 million tons in 2018, an increase of 2.86 percent year-on-year. The container throughput was 10.7023 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), an increase of 3.09 percent year-on-year. 
 
With regard to passenger transport, the passenger traffic volume of the Xiamen-Jinmen route reached a record high, with passenger trips reaching 1.745 million. In the cruise industry, Xiamen Port received a total of 96 voyages of cruise ships in 2018, an increase of 24.68 percent, and passenger throughput reached 324,800, an increase of 100.73 percent, which is also the highest in the port's history. 
 
In addition, Xiamen Port has seen the completion of 57 routes linking "Belt and Road" countries, reaching 24 countries and regions. The Xiamen Port management proposed that in 2019, efforts will be made to create a world-class port business environment, and strive to achieve a container throughput of 10.8 million TEUs.
