China's Zhoushan Port holds world's largest cargo capacity xinde marine news 2019-01-03 14:13

The Zhoushan Port in Ningbo City of east China's Zhejiang province has held the largest annual cargo capacity in the world for 10 consecutive years.

The port is also the only one in the world where more than one billion tons of freight was handled in 2018.

In 2019, the port will provide a new service -- to send Chinese self-produced automobiles overseas by a roll-on-roll-off ship, which can contain around 5,200 cars at its inside parking area.

Last year, the port started serving complete ship export. In November 2018, five Chinese-made fishing vessels were sent to Mauritania from the port.

In the future, the port is expected to further promote the implementation of proposals like that for "economic integration of the Yangtze River Delta", "Yangtze River Economic Zone" and "Belt and Road Initiative", which refers to the initiative on the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. It is aimed at building a trade and infrastructure network connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along ancient trade routes.
