China delivers world's first Arctic condensate tanker xinde marine news 2018-12-05 10:36

The world's first Arctic condensate tanker was named and delivered in Guangzhou City of south China's Guangdong Province on Tuesday.

The vessel, named "Boris Sokolov", was built for a Greek company by Guangzhou Shipyard International Co., Ltd.

With a load capacity of 44,550 tons, the vessel can sail in the Arctic region without icebreaker-piloting.

The vessel can achieve two-way ice breaking, in which the bow can break 1.8 meters thick ice layer, and the stern can break 1.5 meters thick ice layer.

Besides, in order to ensure that the vessel can operate under conditions of extremely cold and severe weather, all facilities on the vessel have used cold-proof designs.

"The ice breaking capacity of this vessel is of the highest level in terms of grading. It can be used without the help of an icebreaker in the Arctic waterway. It can run around the clock in all seasons. This means that the energy resources from the Arctic can be safely and smoothly transported to China and anywhere in the world," said Zhou Xuhui, vice general manager of Guangzhou Shipyard International Co., Ltd.

The vessel is mainly used for transporting condensate oil for the Yamal LNG (liquefied natural gas) project, which is the largest LNG project in the world.

The Yamal LNG project will not only promote the development of the energy industry in Russia and its border areas, but will also enrich China's clean energy supply.
