China COSCO Shipping Corp said that its unit, COSCO Shipping Container Lines, has taken delivery of the 20,000 TEU LNG-ready containership, COSCO Shipping Scorpio.
The vessel has been build by Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (NACKS) and ranks among the largest in the world with an overall length of 400 meters and width of 58.6 meters.
Chinese shipping company noted the 197,000 DWT vessel is LNG-ready, enabling an easier conversion to use of LNG as fuel in the future.
COSCO Shipping Scorpio will serve on the Far East-Northwest Europe loop (AEU3).
Last month, the company has taken delivery of a similar ultra large container vessel, the COSCO Shipping Libra. Both are part of COSCO’s order for 11 ULCV’s at NACKS, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry and Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding.
