Hengli Heavy Industry Secures 7 New Orders and Delivers it's First LPG Dual-Fuel Engine Xinde Marine News Skye Polly 2025-10-31 08:56

Following the October 27 signing ceremony with Greek shipowner EFNAV for six 82,000-DWT bulk carriers, Hengli HI announced on October 30 that the company has signed several new contracts — two VLCCs and three 4,600-TEU,two 2,700-TEU containerships — marking another milestone in Hengli's shipbuilding expansion.

The two VLCCs (Very Large Crude Carriers) are valued at US $200–300 million in total, with deliveries scheduled between late 2027 and mid-2028.

The three 4,600 TEU containerships, designed by CSSC 708 Research Institute and classed by Bureau Veritas | Marine & Offshore, carry a combined value of RMB 1.5–1.8 billion and will be delivered in 2028 H1.

Two 2,700 TEU containers were new orders contracted in the same day.

Hengli noted that the VLCC design combines high cargo capacity, endurance, and operational efficiency, showcasing the yard's self-developed innovations in hydrodynamics and green propulsion. The 4,600 TEU class, meanwhile, features low unit fuel consumption and excellent economics, serving as a key link for regional and domestic-international dual-circulation logistics.

Adding to the momentum, on October 28 Hengli Heavy Industry successfully delivered its first self-produced LPG dual-fuel main engine — the 6G60ME-C10.5-LGIP-HPSCR. Standing 12 meters tall and weighing 450 tons, the engine delivers 23,000 horsepower and meets IMO Tier III emission standards while running on LPG or diesel. This achievement marks a breakthrough in China’s independent capability to produce green-fuel marine engines.

With orders now extending through 2029, Hengli’s engine division is poised for full-scale production capacity of 180 units per year, covering the G95 series and below and spanning LNG, LPG, methanol, and ammonia dual-fuel technologies — positioning the group as one of China’s largest and most comprehensive green-engine manufacturers.

A new milestone for China’s shipbuilding industry — advancing green power, global partnerships, and high-end manufacturing.
