China Merchants Port Holdings Co (CMPort) finalized the acquisition of the Australian port of Newcastle, according to the company's website.
Newcastle, located in the state of New South Wales, is the largest port on Australia's east coast, and the world's largest coal export port.
The acquisition of the Australian port expands CMPort's network to six continents. CMPort acquired Brazil's second-largest container terminal Paranaguá Container Terminal in February.
