China's crude oil output edges down 1.6 pct in May xinde marine news 2018-06-20 15:06


China's crude oil output edged down 1.6 percent year on year to 15.97 million tons in May, narrowing from a 2.3-percent decline in April, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). 
 
China produced 515,000 tons of crude oil per day in May, down from 517,000 tons per day in April. The country's daily crude output has stayed around 515,000 tons for the fifth consecutive month, according to the NBS. 
 
In the first five months of 2018, China's crude oil output reached 78.23 million tons, down 2 percent from a year ago.
 
In May, the country's crude oil imports gained 5 percent year on year to 39.05 million tons, NBS data showed. 
 
The data also showed that from January to May, China's crude oil imports increased by 8 percent year on year to 190 million tons. 
 
China surpassed the United States to become the world's largest crude oil importer in 2017, with its imports hitting an historic high of 419.57 million tons or 8.4 million barrels per day.
